Kaiser Permanente provider
My gender: Male
Provider not available for routine appointments.
I grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida, and graduated from the University of Florida College of Medicine. I completed my residency at the University of Hawaii, John A. Burns School of Medicine, where I was chief resident. I returned to the University of Florida College of Medicine for a fellowship in gastrointestinal pathology, and I also did a fellowship in oncologic surgical pathology at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida. My sister, who’s also a pathologist, continues to inspire and amaze me.
The field of medicine was a natural career choice for me as it combines my love of science and my desire to help people in a meaningful way. Pathology as a specialty is challenging, but personally rewarding — it satisfies my scientific curiosity while providing me with an opportunity to work with patients. I’m a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology and the College of American Pathologists. I’ve spoken several times about Lynch syndrome — a form of colorectal cancer — and the techniques used in pathology to diagnose it. My research paper on gene mutation in gastric cancer was published in the Hawaii Medical Journal. To stay current in my field and medicine, in general, I consult online resources such as PubMed and UpToDate. I also read professional journals, participate in continuing medical education programs, and attend medical conferences, both locally and on the Mainland, participate in continuing medical education programs. At the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group, I found a sincere dedication to illness prevention, which I have always believed should be the driving force in medical practice. It’s a pleasure and a privilege to work with the excellent clinicians and staff in this organization; I especially enjoy the team approach here, seeing professionals in different specialties working together for the good of the patient. I appreciate the up-to-date technology at Kaiser Permanente, including the electronic medical record system, as well as the great support from staff. My philosophy of care is to help my patients understand how we’re partnering to improve their health and well-being.
I stay fit by eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly, especially surfing. Spending time with family and friends helps me to relax and refocus
