About me
I was born in China and moved with my family to Southern California when I was five years old. I got my bachelors degree at Harvard and then did my medical training at Washington University in St. Louis. After doing an internal medicine internship at St. Mary's Health Center, I went back to Washington University for a dermatology residency and served as chief resident. My boyfriend and I always loved vacationing in Hawaii and were drawn to Maui after finishing our training. We feel very much at home in this warm, close-knit community.
About my practice
Both of my parents were physicians in China—my mother was a pediatrician, and my father was an immunologist. They showed me how rewarding it can be to help patients heal when they’re vulnerable and to teach them how to keep their bodies strong. They also instilled in me the importance of using medicine to give back to my community.
Dermatology is a wonderful specialty. The diseases are visible to the naked eye or with the help of a simple microscope. Additionally, in recent years there’ve been numerous advances in treatment options. We have more tools than ever before for treating conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, and melanoma.
When I was chief resident, I gave presentations to junior residents on various topics such as infectious diseases, effects of alternative medicine, and melanoma. I’ve also had several research studies published in medical journals.
To keep my knowledge up-to-date, I read publications such as the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, attend medical conferences, and discuss cases with my colleagues. Being a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology also keeps me apprised of the latest developments in my field.
I decided to join Hawaii Permanente Medical Group because I felt so at home with the dermatology group. Everyone seemed committed to delivering excellent care while also being collegial and kind. I believed that it would be an environment in which I could grow professionally and also do good for others.
My approach is to work in partnership with patients. I try to get to know them beyond their medical history and listen to their concerns so that treatments can be individualized. I also try to give them the information they need to take ownership of their health.
How I thrive
I stay healthy by being active, focusing on mindfulness, and spending time with loved ones including my boyfriend and our dog, Rufus. I also enjoy swimming, snorkeling, learning to surf, hiking, watching movies, and cooking.

Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.
A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.
