About me

I'm a board-certified hematologist and medical oncologist specializing in blood disorders and cancer medicine. I practice at Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center.

 

I was born and raised in the small town of Vernon, New Jersey. I earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from Northeastern University, attended medical school at Rutgers University, and completed my internal medicine internship and residency at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. I later pursued fellowship training in hematology and oncology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

 

During my training, I was honored with leadership and alumni awards from Rutgers and was recently named Inpatient Faculty of the Year by the Kaiser Permanente Hawaii Internal Medicine Residency Program. 

 

After practicing internal medicine on Oahu, I sought additional subspecialty training on the mainland. My wife and I chose to return to Hawaii to raise our family in a multicultural community that values compassion, respect for the natural world, and healthy living.

 

About my practice

 

I've loved science since grade school, but it was during an internship at Massachusetts General Hospital that I discovered the human side of medicine. It was there that I realized medicine combines everything I value — scientific discovery, meaningful patient care, and lifelong learning.

 

Caring for people with cancer and blood disorders is a privilege. It allows me to build trusting relationships with patients, help them understand complex diagnoses, guide them through treatment, and support them at every step.

 

My clinical interests include blood cancers, general hematology, and cancers of the chest. I also focus on malignancies of the gastrointestinal, breast, urinary, and reproductive systems, as well as cancers of the head and neck, skin (cutaneous), lungs, thymus, thyroid, and other endocrine organs. 

 

Working closely with multidisciplinary teams – including radiology, pathology, surgery, radiation oncology, and genetics – helps ensure care is personalized and well-coordinated. This collaborative approach brings together the expertise of multiple specialists, all focused on achieving the best possible outcomes for each patient.

 

I'm a member of the National Cancer Institute's Community Oncology Research Program and serve as a sub-investigator for several major clinical research groups, including the SWOG Cancer Research Network, the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology, and NRG Oncology.

 

I've done research on DNA testing to detect minimal residual disease and have developed training to help physicians interpret blood smears under the microscope. I'm a proud member of the American Society of Hematology (ASH), the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

 

How I thrive

 

I strive for focus and excellence at work, and I bring that same intentionality to life outside of medicine. I enjoy spending time with my family, playing with my two children, exploring the outdoors on hikes with our two dogs, and enjoying evenings out with my wife. I also stay active by running, scuba diving, playing ice hockey, and traveling. These experiences help me stay grounded, energized, and present in all that I do.

Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan.
