About me
I was born and raised in Salem, Oregon and spent a good amount of time in both Eugene and Portland before moving to Maui. I attended the University of Oregon (Go Ducks!) and went on to study molecular biology, biochemistry, and political science – graduating with honors. After college, I worked as a researcher in the Biology Department at the University of Oregon before attending medical school at Oregon Health and Science University. I was proud to graduate with the distinction of being nominated to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.
After medical school, I completed my internship and residency at the Providence Oregon Family Medicine Residency Program and received a teaching award from my peers. I was fortunate to stay on as faculty at Providence and spent several years as a busy urban family medicine physician and teacher working with residents and medical students, seeing patients in the clinic and hospital, and even delivering babies. Through it all I was blessed to have a supportive family, partner, and children.
After many great years in Oregon, our family heard the calling of the warm ocean and new adventures, which brought us to Maui. I grew up close to my Japanese grandmother and lived in Japan some as a child. Because of this, Hawaii always felt like a natural fit. Plus, I can get Japanese ingredients at almost any grocery store! Our family was blessed to have Maui take us in, and we’re now all busy surfing, hiking, paddling, gardening, working on our house, and enjoying our beloved island home.
About my practice
I pursued a career in medicine because I wanted to use my abilities in science and math to help others. I became a family physician because I wanted to focus on keeping people healthy and caring for them regardless of their age. I was inspired by many of the small-town family doctors I worked with in Oregon who grew to know and care for their community as patients, friends, and neighbors. I’m proud and grateful to have the opportunity to do the same in Lahaina and the greater west side of Maui.
I stay up-to-date and informed on clinical developments by reading medical journals, attending conferences, and learning from my awesome colleagues. I joined the Kaiser Permanente Hawaii team because I believe it’s one of the best designed systems to keep people healthy, prevent illness, and avoid unnecessary medical care that can be harmful. We have a dedicated and talented team of specialists, nurses, clerks, laboratory technicians, pharmacists, and more working hard to keep Hawaii healthy – I’m proud to be a part of that team!
How I thrive
I try to be active daily, eat lots of fruits and vegetables, sleep at least eight hours, practice mindfulness, play with my dog, spend time with friends and family, and have fun! My favorite activities include hiking, running, weightlifting, surfing, paddling, skiing/snowboarding, reading a good book, cooking with family, and traveling!

Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.
A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.
