About me
I grew up in Tennessee and Alabama. During college I spent summers in Hawaii and fell in love with the culture, climate, and lifestyle. I received my medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and did my ob-gyn residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. I’ve been working my way back to Hawaii since then and am so glad to finally have settled here. I met my husband while doing research in Hawaii, and he’s been my greatest support.
About my practice
While visiting home during Christmas break one year, I shadowed my Sunday school teacher, an obstetrician-gynecologist. Watching her use her intellectual gifts in the service of others, I knew that I wanted to follow in her footsteps as a medical doctor. I chose ob-gyn as my specialty because of my strong interest in women's health. It’s rewarding to care for a woman over many years and to be a significant part of her journey through life. This field offers both surgical and clinical approaches to care, which give me more tools to help my patients and allow me to apply my medical knowledge to real-life situations.
I presented research at a conference of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) on the use of ultrasounds to confirm the gestational age of pregnancies in labor inductions. In addition, I’ve coauthored two research articles, including one on HPV (human papilloma virus) detection in men, published in the Journal of Clinical Virology.
I keep up-to-date by attending grand rounds and reading publications from ACOG—my professional organization.
Kaiser Permanente has long been known in this community as a place where patients receive thorough, high-quality medical care in a friendly environment. When I looked into this for myself, I found that, indeed, Hawaii Permanente Medical Group (HPMG) physicians were not only experts in their fields, but genuinely interested in their patients. It’s an honor to be a part of this team.
I practice medicine based on research findings, and I believe in doing the right thing for the patient at the right time for the right reason. I partner with my patients to ensure that everyone involved is knowledgeable about and satisfied with any proposed treatment plan. I also like to get to know my patients on a personal level and make sure they know they’re being heard and understood.
How I thrive
I stay mentally, spiritually, and emotionally healthy by reading, playing the piano and guitar, contributing my time and skills to my community, exploring Hawaii with my husband, spending time with my cat, and learning from others. I get lots of exercise through fun activities such as kayaking, snorkeling, scuba diving, running, hiking, and group sports. In my spare time I also like to cook.

Accommodations for Individuals with Disabilities
Kaiser Permanente is committed to providing accessible facilities, services, and programs for all members, visitors and individuals with disabilities. In compliance with federal and state laws that prohibit discrimination based on disability, Kaiser Permanente provides:

- free auxiliary aids and services to ensure effective communication with individuals with hearing, vision, cognitive, and/or communication-related disabilities, including qualified sign language interpreter services and informational materials in alternative formats (large print, audio tape/CDs, accessible PDFs or Microsoft Word documents, electronic texts/disks/CD-ROMS, and Braille); and
- access to service animals, except where the animal poses a significant health or safety risk(s) to others.
For more information about access to a specific facility or provider, or if you believe that Kaiser Permanente has failed to provide appropriate access or services or otherwise discriminated on the basis of a disability, please contact Member Services toll-free 1-800-966-5955 or TTY 711, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. or Saturday, 8 a.m. – noon. You may also contact or file a grievance with the Kaiser Permanente Civil Rights Coordinator in person, by mail, fax or email at: 711 Kapiolani Blvd, Honolulu, Hawaii 96813, civil-rights-coordinator@kp.org, or toll-free 1-800-966-5955, TTY 711.
The availability and use of the Kaiser Permanente grievance procedure does not prevent a person from filing a complaint of discrimination on the basis of disability with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office for Civil Rights or the Hawaii Civil Rights Commission.
Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.
A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.
