About me
When I was a toddler, I emigrated from Taiwan with my family. I lived mostly in Seattle through my early 20s and went to the University of Washington to study environmental health. I received my medical degree from The Ohio State University and did internships and a fellowship at Tripler Army Medical Center. While in training on Oahu, I grew to love the people, culture, natural beauty, and wonderful weather of these islands.
My parents came from farming families in rural Taiwan. With hard work and dedication they were able to provide opportunites in this country for me and my two younger sisters that they couldn’t have dreamed of for themselves. They demonstrated a love of family, strong work ethic, and regard for humanity that have guided me throughout my life.
About my practice
During my formative years, one of my immediate family members had several medical issues. As a result, I was exposed to many different health care professionals, all of whom acted with compassion, kindness, and respect. The examples they set motivated me to pursue a medical career so that I could help others as we were helped.
Child and adolescent psychiatry came to me during my third year of medical school, when I saw firsthand the positive difference this work could make in the lives of kids, teens, and their families. I have a soft spot for these patients, who often are vulnerable to forces outside their control. When it came time to select my specialty, a trusted mentor gently nudged me into this field, and I’ll be ever grateful for his sage advice.
When I was in the U.S. Army, I served as liaison to the Behavioral Health and Primary Care Departments at military hospitals. In that position I gave refresher courses on the evaluation and management of psychiatric conditions such as uncomplicated depression, anxiety, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
To keep up with research and other developments in my field, I maintain membership in the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, which provides the latest information.
How I thrive
Health and fitness have been my passions since high school, when I was a club swimmer. I enjoy beach days, waterfall hikes, chasing sunsets, and camping. Hobbies I plan to get back to include road biking, beach volleyball, and downhill skiing. I’m also a beginner yogi, an intermediate pianist, a travel enthusiast, and a lover of all cuddly animals. For my emotional well-being I exercise my green thumb, work on my plant aquarium, and cook creative meals at home. And most importantly I make it a priority to nurture friendships and stay in close contact with my family, who are in Taiwan, Seattle, and Houston.

Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.
A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.
