Where I practice
I was born and raised in Texas, but my love for the ocean brought me to Hawaii. When I was 10 years old my father injured his feet in a boating accident. Through the skilled hands of an orthopedic surgeon, they were saved. I always thought it was amazing to be able to have that kind of impact on someone’s life. My dad continues to enjoy the outdoors on his own two feet! My grandmother was a pediatrician and she was another source of inspiration. I always thought she had a great career helping others, and this inspired me on my own career path.
About my practice
Because I have played sports all my life, orthopedics seemed like a natural choice of specialty for me. I also find that athletes are some of the most motivated patients we have. It is very challenging and exciting to get them "back in the game"! At the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group, I appreciate our team approach to patient care. My assistant, coworkers and colleagues are very well trained and extremely helpful in taking great care of our members. In my practice, I aim to do the right thing and keep a positive attitude! I try to sit down and get to know my patients. I find out what kind of work they do, what activities they enjoy, and what their living situation is. All these things will usually give us something in common to talk about and help me understand their health goals. I am also an assistant professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine, and the team orthopedic surgeon for the University of Hawaii football team.
How I thrive
I try to get some form of exercise five days a week and to spend time with my wife and daughter. I enjoy surfing, fishing, mountain biking, music, and painting.
