About me

I grew up in coastal Alaska, and when I visited Hawaii as a teenager, I knew I would someday call this my home. I’m fortunate to have lived abroad and be well-traveled, and when I moved to Maui many years ago, I still felt this was the only place I wanted to call home.

I did my midwifery training in Arizona, receiving my nursing degree from the University of Arizona and my Master of Science in Nursing and Nurse-Midwifery from Frontier Nursing University. I completed my clinical training at El Rio Community Health Center in Arizona. I worked in that busy practice for five years before coming back to Maui, and took care of so many amazing women from diverse backgrounds. I worked in a gynecology practice on Maui before joining Hawaii Permanente Medical Group and am thrilled to be part of this organization. I consider it an honor and privilege to serve the women of Maui as a midwife.

I have two incredible daughters, who are my biggest source of inspiration to always keep growing and finding new challenges. The youngest is still in high school, and the oldest is a nurse in neonatal intensive care on Oahu. Many of my Alaskan ohana also call Maui their home.

About my practice

I have a premedical degree from the University of Alaska and was planning to become an obstetrician-gynecologist. However, while shadowing a gynecologist who was called to attend an emergency, I had the opportunity to observe his nurse-midwife colleague and, after that, I knew there was no calling for me other than midwifery.

Midwife means "with woman." My role is to educate, council, and advocate for women, empowering them to make the best decisions for themselves. A visit to a women’s health office can be anxiety-provoking. I strive to ensure a safe and respectful environment by practicing trauma-informed care, which prioritizes our autonomy and safeguards our physical and emotional safety, ultimately preventing trauma or retraumatization.

I'm particularly interested in attending women through the most significant transitions of their lives: adolescence, pregnancy, birth, postpartum, big life changes, and menopause. I’m always learning and updating my practice. I love to educate others about reproductive science, am passionate about health optimization, and incorporate mental health care into my practice. I approach each woman holistically, understanding that her health care should help her find her way to mental, emotional, and physical wellness.

How I thrive

I exercise each morning so that I'm energized and sharp for the day. I've practiced yoga and meditation and use these tools to balance my busy life. Whether it's backpacking through Haleakala or scuba diving, I'm always happy being in nature. I love spending time with my family and little dog, Ishka, reading science fiction, traveling, and watching the whales come home to Maui from Alaska every year to give birth.

Accommodations for Individuals with Disabilities

Kaiser Permanente is committed to providing accessible facilities, services, and programs for all members, visitors and individuals with disabilities. In compliance with federal and state laws that prohibit discrimination based on disability, Kaiser Permanente provides:

  1. accessible exam rooms and medical equipment;

Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.

A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.
