My gender: Male
Where I practice
I was born and raised on Oahu. My parents believed in strong family values and taught me to always give back to those less fortunate. I graduated from Maryknoll High School and returned to Hawaii after my surgical training. I feel blessed to live back home here on the Islands. My training in Portland and San Diego allowed me to learn under the pioneers of bariatric and minimally invasive surgery. I feel fortunate to bring this knowledge and experience back to serve the people of Hawaii.
About my practice
It was my study of the history and evolution of medicine that inspired me to pursue a medical career. My father was an engineer and taught me the joy that comes from completing a project as well as the excitement that comes from investigating new and innovative ways of solving problems. It is exciting to be part of a process that can lead to benefits for so many people.I believe that modern medicine requires a team approach and appreciate that the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group (HPMG) provides a network of physicians whose expertise I can count on. My role as a surgeon is just one aspect of the coordinated care we provide to our members.I enjoy the initial interaction with my patients. It is always interesting to hear about their experiences and background. I feel fortunate to be in a career that allows me to meet, talk to, and learn from people from all types of careers and cultures. I am fortunate to be a part of the bariatric department at HPMG. I am also a member of the American College of Surgeons and American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, and vice president of the Hawaii Bariatric Society.
How I thrive
In my free time, I enjoy running, boxing, golfing, going to the gym, and playing chess. I am a recent father and enjoy spending time with my family.
