Refill prescriptions FAQs

Here you'll find helpful tips, details, and answers to common questions about how to get your prescriptions refilled.

If medications are missing or outdated, call your docror's office or send a secure message to request that your medication list be updated.

Your prescription may not be ready to be refilled. Go to your medication list and check the prescription details to see when it was last ordered and when it will become eligible to refill. If you have run out of a medication and need to refill it immediately, contact the pharmacy listed on the prescription bottle.

Our system requires a credit card number to process any order. There won’t be any charges if you don’t have a pharmacy copayment.

If you want to use the pharmacy on kp.org or the KP app for someone else, you have two options.

  1. Act for a Family Member lets caregivers get permission to use certain kp.org services for Kaiser Permanente members they care for, including managing prescriptions. To set this up, go to Act for a Family Member and add a person to your family list. We’ll need to verify your identity and confirm that you are eligible. This process may take some time, but after it’s complete, you’ll be able to order medications, view medication status, and view order status for the family member you added. To learn more, visit our Help with Act for a Family Member page.
  2. If you don’t want to set up Act for a Family Member but still want to refill a prescription for a family member, you can use Order by Rx number. This option lets you order medications using your family member’s Medical Record Number (MRN) and the Rx number printed on the prescription label. This option limits you to active prescription orders only.

For safe disposal options, visit the safe drug disposal page. Options include drop-kiosks at Kaiser Permanente locations and pre-addressed mailers.
