About me
I am a native of Birmingham, Ala., and I am the youngest of three children. Our mother is a health care professional and we were inspired by her devotion to caring for patients and others, which led to each of us using our gifts in a similar fashion. I fell in love with optometry when I was a sophomore at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). The decision to go on to complete my optometric education at the UAB School of Optometry was an easy one. It is one of the best optometry schools in the nation! I also completed a residency at UAB and spent the first four years of my career in practice at a pediatric optometry practice before deciding to shift gears and focus on management of adult ocular disease.
About my practice
I have watched several members of my own family struggle with various illnesses. Subsequently, I have seen how poor understanding of treatment and rationale can be obstructive to attaining the best patient outcomes. I joined Kaiser Permanente because I believe the integrated health care model provides consistency and efficiency for both patients and clinicians alike. This renders the best outcomes for our members. The core of my practice is listening to our members and communicating with them in a way that makes them feel taken care of and at ease. I want our members to feel comfortable asking me questions and leave our visit with an understanding of the treatment plan. I firmly believe in a preventive approach to health care. Early detection and management is important in maintaining a high quality of life for patients.
How I thrive
Family is of paramount importance to me. I enjoy family time and travel with my husband and daughter, both of whom keep me smiling and laughing. Humor is nourishment for the soul. We are self-proclaimed foodies, always looking for the next adventure for our taste buds. I also enjoy outdoor activities and reading. However, I am most passionate about crafting. I thrive by living every day as if I will never get the opportunity again. Finding the joy and beauty of all experiences, whether good or bad, helps us to get the most out of life and thrive to our fullest potential.

Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select providers and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.
Kaiser Permanente uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business.
