Kaiser Permanente physician
My gender: Male
Accepting new patients. Referral may be required.
My name is Vijay Rao, and I am a physician at Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Medical Center.
I grew up in sunny Los Angeles. For college, I went up north to the Bay Area. I then made a big move to Houston for medical school. After four years, I decided to come back to California, where I did further training at San Jose, UC San Francisco, and UC San Diego.
My specialty is radiology, with a focus on musculoskeletal imaging and breast imaging (mammography). I also do general radiology, including CT, MRI, ultrasound, and x-ray. I believe in patient-centered care. Everything we as physicians do should reflect our desire to help our patients thrive. That is why I am a big advocate of screening mammograms, which helps us detect breast cancer early and save lives as a result. I also believe in a team approach to health care, in which multiple different specialties work together to make sure the patient gets the best treatment possible.
I believe in a balanced approach to life. When I am not at work, I like to partake in activities which exercise my mind and body. That includes running (I especially love jogging along the beach when I have the time), hiking, and a voracious reader.
