Where I practice
Welcome to Kaiser Permanente, and thank you for your interest in learning more about me. My professional goal is to help my patients achieve a life full of promise and vitality. To accomplish this, I have taken a keen interest in the promotion of shared decision-making between patients and their doctors. I believe that my patients know themselves well enough to discern which treatment options available can best improve their quality of life. My job is to partner with and guide my patients in how to meet their health goals.
I am triple board certified in internal medicine, geriatric medicine, and palliative medicine. Teaching is important to me; I am on clinical faculty at UCLA, where I teach medical residents and students. I am the director of the Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Palliative Medicine Fellowship, a program I started in 2009. In 2010, I became the assistant chief of my department. In 2013, I became the regional lead for shared decision-making.
About my practice
I feel very fortunate to be part of a medical group that is truly patient-centered. Whether I am caring for a healthy adult or a person with terminal illness, I feel very strongly that patient care is a matter of teamwork. I believe in being an advocate for my patients and working in partnership with them to meet set goals, which includes collaboration with other physicians. I work on an interdisciplinary team at Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Medical Center as a palliative medicine consultant and as the medical director of our hospice agency, where I also have the privilege of making home visits.
How I thrive
I believe that a holistic approach to life will help me to age successfully. I take the stairs, eat vegetables, wear sunscreen, attend church, and have an advance healthcare directive. I am thankful for each day. My family enjoys traveling and sharing in the company of friends.
