Where I practice
Hello there! My name is Dr. Samir Johna. I would like to take this opportunity to share with you some information about myself. I hope this will narrow the gap between us when we get to meet in person for any of your future surgical needs.
I’m originally from Iraq. After the turmoil there, I had the good sense of immigrating to the United States to put my life back on track again. Here, I met my wife. We have one daughter together. We try to spend whatever time we have to fulfill our passion for the arts, music, languages, history, travel, and sports. I am a board-certified general surgeon with Kaiser Permanente at Fontana Medical Center. I’m also a clinical professor of surgery at Loma Linda University School of Medicine and the director for Arrowhead Regional Medical Center/Kaiser Permanente (Fontana) general surgery residency program. I recently completed my requirements to earn a Master of Academic Medicine degree (MACM) from USC.
About my practice
At Fontana Medical Center, I’m part of a group of surgeons who are dedicated to helping our members. My practice covers a broad spectrum of general surgical areas—from hernias, gall bladders, and benign breast conditions to gastric and colon cancer, management of malignant breast conditions, and advanced laparoscopy for the management of GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). My colleagues and I share one vision and one mission: serving your best interests. I also enjoy being involved in medical education and research. Besides being the general surgery residency program director at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, I’m also a board member of the Institutional Review Board for research.
How I thrive
“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!” Over the years I learned that I could not keep my members healthy if I did not have a good grasp on my own health! And for that, I am a firm believer in eating well and living well in order to lead a balanced, healthy life.
