Where I practice
Welcome! I’m glad to have the opportunity to present my credentials to you and share other information about myself. It's very important that you feel comfortable with your personal physician, and I hope this page will help you start to get to know me.
I was born and raised in Chicago. I attended Northwestern University for my undergraduate studies and medical school, and completed my general surgery residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin. I came out to Southern California to complete a fellowship in surgical oncology at City of Hope and decided to stay. I was in private practice in Orange County for over a decade before joining Kaiser Permanente. I’m married and have a daughter.
About my practice
I was first introduced to bariatric surgery for the treatment of morbid obesity while in private practice. Over several years, I gradually transitioned from performing cancer surgery to performing bariatric surgery. Obesity is rapidly becoming a national epidemic and is responsible for many health problems. I find the treatment of obesity very satisfying for many of the same reasons that I find cancer treatment satisfying. I enjoy being able to form long-term relationships with our members and helping people through a transforming time in their lives.
How I thrive
I enjoy running and completed my first marathon several years ago, although I need to catch up with my wife, who runs a lot more than me. I am a fan of modern art, modern architecture, and modern music. I enjoy reading books and traveling. I especially enjoy watching my daughter in her various competitions in figure skating and track and field.
