Where I practice
About me
Hi, I’m Dr. Peter Kim. I’m a board-certified neurologist, and I specialize in neuro-oncology here at Kaiser Permanente’s Vandever Medical Offices. I’ve been practicing medicine for over a decade, and I’m passionate about caring for members with brain and spinal cord tumors.
Biography
I went to medical school at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. After that, I completed my internship in internal medicine at UCSF Fresno, then went on to do my neurology residency and a specialized fellowship in neuro-oncology at Yale New Haven Hospital.
About my practice
My Cancer Subspecialty
My primary focus is CNS (central nervous system) oncology. That means I care for members with brain tumors, spinal cord tumors, and related neurologic conditions. I understand how overwhelming this diagnosis can be, and I’m here to help guide you every step of the way with personalized care and compassion.
Multidisciplinary Teams
In addition to seeing members, I also serve as a regional expert on our multidisciplinary CNS Tumor Board. This team brings together specialists from different fields to make sure every member receives the most comprehensive care plan possible. I also work closely with our Southern California Regional CNS Oncology Committee, where we review new treatments and help shape our approach to care across Kaiser Permanente.
Research and Clinical Trials
Research is a key part of advancing care, and I’m proud to be a sub-investigator with the National Cancer Institute’s community oncology program. I’m involved with several national research groups including SWOG, NSABP (National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project), Alliance, and NRG Oncology. These partnerships allow me to offer members access to promising clinical trials and emerging therapies that might not be widely available elsewhere.
I’m board certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and in neuro-oncology by the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties. Through my national and regional roles, I stay actively involved in developing the latest standards of care for patients with brain tumors.
How I thrive
Outside of medicine, I believe in building strong, supportive relationships with members and their families. I understand that every journey is unique, and I’m here to listen, support, and care for you as a whole person — not just your diagnosis.
