About me

Thank you for taking the time to visit my Web page! My name is Dr. Niharika Perni, and I am pleased to have the opportunity to share a little bit more about myself and my practice as a family medicine physician. I hope this page will answer a few of your questions and help encourage you to partner with me for your healthcare needs.

Biography

My drive to go into medicine came early on in life. My grandmother was diagnosed with diabetes mellitus, and my grandfather suffered from a stroke. Watching what not only my grandparents went through but my family as well motivated me to take up medicine in order to make a difference in the lives of others. Having been born and raised in Hyderabad, India, I was able to apply to the MediCiti Institute of Medical Sciences right after graduating from high school. But the competition was fierce – out of the 1 million applicants to take the entrance exam, only the top 1,000 students were admitted to medical school. I was lucky to be in that group. While in medical school, I met the love of my life, and as a couple we made the decision to migrate to the United States after I finished my degree. We moved to Saginaw, Michigan, where I completed my residency at the Central Michigan University. From there, we looked west and settled in Kern County, where I took a position at Omni Family Health. I worked there for 4 years before joining the Kaiser Permanente family.

About my practice

How I operate my practice is really defined by why I chose to become a family practice physician in the first place. Witnessing my grandparents’ individual health challenges made me realize I wanted to work in preventive medicine. My goal is to prevent disease progression by helping people lead healthier and more balanced lives. Family medicine is fulfilling for me because I can develop long-term care relationships with members and their families of all age groups, genders, and cultural backgrounds. As your physician, I will start by getting to know you and working to earn your trust. I believe in medicine based on evidence and current research, and I like to take time to educate members about their physical and mental health. Most importantly, I will work closely with you to develop plans that work best in your life rather than a “one size fits all” approach.

How I thrive

The best way for me to rebalance and find joy is by spending time with my family, especially by traveling. I also feel energized by hanging out with friends and dancing to Bollywood music — I have even performed at a few cultural events!
