About me

Thanks for taking the time to read about me! My name is Michael Zhang, and I'm proud to be a Kaiser Permanente physician.

Biography

I was born and raised in a small town in Washington state. As a first-generation Chinese American, growing up as a cultural minority was a very unique experience that led me to appreciate my own Chinese heritage and strive to learn more about others. I went to the University of Washington in Seattle for my undergraduate degree in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology, where I spent time exploring my educational interests and ultimately discovered my passion for medicine. After completing medical school at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, I began my family medicine residency training at Kaiser Permanente’s Woodland Hills Medical Center. I love family medicine because it gives me the opportunity to provide care for members of all ages and allows me to develop long-lasting relationships with them. During residency, I was able to pursue some of my interests, which include various office-based procedures, mental health, and caring for the LGBTQIA+ community. The Southern California lifestyle, year-round sunshine, and community speak to me, and I am excited to continue the next step of my career at Kaiser Permanente.

About my practice

Taking the time to get to know you is an important part of my practice. I love meeting new people and getting to know about their interests, backgrounds, and life experiences. Focusing on preventive health screenings and guidelines is a critical component of my approach to family medicine, which I believe should be centered on members. Additionally, a team approach to management, with a foundation of medicine based on evidence and current research, is another crucial piece of providing high-quality member care.

How I thrive

Having a well-balanced mind, body, and spirit is something I am passionate about. I thrive by spending time outdoors, and you can find me on a sunny weekend day hiking any of the local trails in the area. I also enjoy visiting national parks, playing with my dog, and helping my 30+ house plants thrive. Ask me about my latest plant propagation! You'll also find me on the weekends at the theme parks or trying out the newest restaurants in town.
