About me

Welcome to my Web page.

Biography

I grew up in Chino, California in the 1960s and 1970s. As a child, I was always interested in how things worked. I took apart every machine or toy to see what made it work. I graduated from Chino High School in 1976. The highlight of my high school years was being the drum major of the school's marching band and winning the State Championship of Mace drum majors. I also developed a love of biology. I wanted to learn what made the human body work. I started college as a biology major with the goal of teaching biology. Early in college, I decided that I wanted to become a physician. It seemed to be the perfect blend of science and a profession where I could help people and foster long-term relationships. I graduated from UC San Diego Medical School in 1984. I have been married for more than 35 years and have three grown children.

About my practice

After medical school, I did a three-year residency in family medicine, which was a tremendous experience. Working in the emergency department and delivering more than 350 babies were some of the highlights. I really enjoy the relationships that develop from being a family physician. I feel the joy and the sadness of the lives I encounter. Family medicine allows me a very broad exposure to the exciting world of medicine, and I enjoy the close, ongoing relationships with my patients. It always amazes, blesses, and humbles me when one of my elderly patients comes for an appointment with me just to visit. This is a joyful, sometimes sad, and often humbling profession. I am blessed to be a physician.

How I thrive

I enjoy astronomy, restoring old cars, golf, and walking my dog, Whitney. I sometimes spend late nights photographing stars and galaxies with my telescope. I recently restored a 1956 Chevy Bel Air two-door hardtop. I love working in the garage and biking. I recently built a roll-off roof observatory in my backyard and am doing a lot of astrophotography. Last year I became a grandpa for the first time. That has brought a lot of joy to my life and helped center me on the things that are important: family, relationships, and making a difference every day in the lives I touch. I love this job and hope to practice till I am 70+!
