About me
My name is Marirose, and I am happy to join the Kaiser Permanente Riverside team and to be given this opportunity to tell you about myself.
Biography
Growing up in the Philippines provided me with a strong foundation and shaped my aspirations for a career in medicine. In December 2004, at the age of 23, I moved to the United States. During my initial months in the United States, I worked tirelessly as a clinical laboratory assistant while simultaneously studying for my licensure exam to become a clinical laboratory scientist (CLS). Subsequently, in 2006, I transitioned to working as a CLS. These initial experiences in the laboratory environment sparked a desire in me to pursue a career in medicine. Recognizing that foreign graduates faced considerable challenges in gaining admission to US medical schools and driven by my passion for medicine, I applied to a Caribbean medical school in 2008. I was granted a conditional acceptance to Ross School of Medicine through their Medical Education Readiness Program and graduated in November 2013.
Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to share my knowledge and experiences with others. In MetroWest Medical Center in Massachusetts, I actively engaged residents and medical students by reviewing peripheral smear slides in the hematology department. In Maui, I was honored to have had the opportunity to serve the community as a hospitalist, but while I cherished the experiences I gained in Massachusetts and Maui, I felt a strong calling to return to my home state, California.
My journey from the Philippines to the United States has been characterized by determination, resilience, and a deep-rooted passion for medicine. Every step of my career, from working as a clinical laboratory assistant to eventually becoming an attending physician, has shaped me both professionally and personally. Through my experiences, I have strengthened my clinical skills, expanded my knowledge base, and cultivated a genuine commitment to patient care. As I embark on this new chapter in California, I am eager to utilize my skills, experiences, and passion to continue making a meaningful impact in medicine and serve my community.
About my practice
The honor of being a physician stems from the profound impact one can have on someone else's life, be it a member or their family members.
Having experienced being on the other side of the fence, I understand the vulnerability and emotions that come with seeking medical care. It is this understanding that compels me to treat members and their families with the same care, compassion, and respect I would extend to my own family members.
Effective communication ensures the delivery of successful treatments and care. I firmly believe that open communication between physicians, the healthcare team, family members, and members is key to achieving positive outcomes. This includes actively listening to members and their loved ones, addressing their concerns, and providing them with the necessary information to make informed decisions about their health.
Medicine is not just a profession — it is a vocation, a calling to make a positive impact on the lives of others. Through wholehearted dedication and genuine love for the field, physicians can truly deliver high-quality healthcare. May we never forget the power of effective communication in this process, as it is through these interactions that we provide comfort, understanding, and hope for those in need.
How I thrive
In today's fast-paced world, maintaining a healthy and balanced life has become essential for overall well-being. It is an ongoing process, and I am committed to embracing it wholeheartedly. A healthy lifestyle rooted in self-care includes physical activity, nutritious food choices, artistic expression, quality time with loved ones, and even exploring the world. I prioritize these elements and find immense joy in incorporating them into my everyday routine. Through cooking nutritious meals, staying active, pursuing my artistic passions, and sharing memorable moments with loved ones, I have learned how these practices contribute to an enriched existence.
