About me

Welcome! I’m Dr. Mallika, or Dr. Y, or Dr. Yavatkar. I’m glad you’re here and appreciate the opportunity to share a bit about myself. I believe feeling comfortable with your personal physician is essential, and I hope this page helps you get to know me.

Biography

I am a family medicine physician who enjoys caring for members across all stages of life. I grew up in Portland, Oregon, and later attended Scripps College in California for my undergraduate education before pursuing medical school at George Washington University in Washington, DC. I completed my family medicine residency at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

I chose family medicine because it allows me to build long-term relationships with members and care for the whole person, not just individual symptoms. I value preventive care, chronic disease management, and supporting members as their health needs change over time.

About my practice

As a family medicine physician, I aim to provide member-centered care that is collaborative and individualized. I believe high-quality care comes from listening carefully, explaining medical information clearly, and working together to create realistic and sustainable health plans. I enjoy caring for members of all ages and backgrounds, and I strive to create a welcoming environment where members feel comfortable asking questions and taking an active role in their health. My clinical interests include women’s health, transgender care, and LGBTQ+ health, and I am committed to providing inclusive, respectful care for members of all identities and backgrounds.

How I thrive

Maintaining balance is important to me, both personally and professionally. I value spending time outdoors, staying active, and making space for rest and reflection. These practices help me stay grounded and present, and they support the energy and focus I bring to my work with members.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, which includes my husband, our 3 children, 2 dogs, a cat, a lively backyard flock of chickens, and bees, as I am an amateur beekeeper. These activities help me stay grounded and bring energy, perspective, and presence to my work as a physician.
