About me
I grew up in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania — a small town of 4,000 people, 50 miles south of Pittsburgh. I went to Northwestern University in Chicago for a 7-year combined college/medical school program. I completed my internal medicine internship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. During my dermatology residency at UC Irvine, I served as chief resident and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. I am board certified in dermatology.
Biography
I am founder, medical director, and principal investigator at California Dermatology and Voluntary Professor at the Department of Dermatology, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. I am a councilor for the International Psoriasis Council and serve on the medical board of the National Psoriasis Foundation. I served on the American Academy of Dermatology/National Psoriasis Foundation psoriasis guidelines committee, which published updated 6 psoriasis guidelines in 2019 through 2021. I am co-editor for 6 textbooks about psoriasis. I am associate editor for the 4th edition of Comprehensive Dermatologic Drug Therapy.
About my practice
I have written more than 500 PubMed articles, of which more than 300 are about psoriasis, as well as 70 book chapters. I am secretary-treasurer of the Pacific Dermatology Association. I have given more than 200 continuing medical education lectures at medical conferences and dermatology departments/divisions in 11 countries on 4 continents. I have been awarded 3 Presidential Citations from the American Academy of Dermatology (2016, 2021, 2024).
How I thrive
On a personal level, I am married with 2 sons. I enjoy following professional sports/teams (tennis, Steelers, Penguins, Dodgers, Lakers), weightlifting, traveling (I have been to more than 50 countries), and playing pickleball and boardgames. I am excited to help you on your journey to better skin!

Medicare Members: To request a hard copy of Kaiser Permanente’s provider directory, please call our Member Services department at 1-800-443-0815, seven days a week, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Kaiser Permanente will mail a hard copy of the provider directory to you within three (3) business days of your request. Kaiser Permanente may ask whether your request for a hard copy is a one-time request or if you are requesting to receive the provider directory in hard copy permanently.
If you request it, your request for hard copies of the provider directory remains until you leave Kaiser Permanente or request that hard copies be discontinued.
Medi-Cal Members: This directory includes Kaiser Permanente’s outpatient pharmacies. You can get any drugs covered by Kaiser Permanente at one of these pharmacies. You can get outpatient drugs covered by Medi-Cal at any Medi-Cal Rx Pharmacy. It does not have to be a Kaiser Permanente network pharmacy. Most Kaiser Permanente network pharmacies are Medi-Cal Rx pharmacies. Your pharmacy can tell you if it is part of the Medi-Cal Rx network. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.
