Where I practice
Welcome to my Web page. I'm happy to have this chance to introduce myself to you and tell you about my practice. I feel very fortunate to work at Kaiser Permanente because of my wonderful colleagues and patients, and look forward to working with you to care for your health.
I was born in Glendale, California, the son of two native Californians, and I grew up in the San Fernando Valley. The search for the best education led me to Stanford University for undergraduate studies and then to Northwestern University Medical School. I met my wife there and stayed in the Chicago area because the University of Illinois had an excellent residency program that stressed ear and vocal cord surgery, the two areas in otolaryngology that interested me most. However, after training the call of nicer weather and proximity to my extended family led me to return to California.
About my practice
Medicine as a career is a very special opportunity to connect and help people in a meaningful way, utilizing medical skills and knowledge, but also listening and responding to what patients need. It is a privilege to help patients understand what concerns them, explain what they may not grasp, perform surgery that will benefit them, and communicate with them and their families. I feel very honored that patients have entrusted me with their care and strive to treat them as I would my own family. I am fortunate to have seven excellent colleagues, and because of them I am able to focus my practice on what I enjoy most--the evaluation of and surgery for problems with hearing and the ear. This also involves the evaluation of newborns and children found to have hearing loss. Other special interests of mine are microscopic surgery of the vocal cords and voice box and the evaluation of children with speech problems related to cleft palate.
How I thrive
My two sons are adults now and no longer require much of my time, so I am able to engage in activities I enjoy to maintain a balanced life and good mental health. Perhaps my favorite activity is travel, especially planning my own driving trip in Europe after reading about the history of the areas I will be seeing. But one can't travel all the time, and while at home I enjoy maintaining and driving my classic European sports cars. I also am very interested in history and view programs and films related to this.
