About me

Thank you for visiting my Web page. I am Dr. Ivan Barrow, and I hope to become your child's pediatrician.

Biography

I was born in Washington, D.C. and am the eldest of four children. I moved to Los Angeles to attend UCLA School of Medicine, where I met my wife. I remained in Los Angeles and completed my residency and internship at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. My wife and I have two children, one girl and one boy. We enjoy going to the movies, and to the various activities in which our children are involved. I chose to become a physician when I was a child. I have always known that I wanted to help others, and I always knew that becoming a doctor was the way that I would do this.

About my practice

I love children and would like to help them to remain healthy, grow as people, and to become leaders for our future. Each child is an individual; there is no manual that will give either you or myself all of the answers to your child. We will work as a team to keep your child healthy, and help them continue to develop. I believe strongly that you should always try to see only one pediatrician for your child's well care visits, if possible. That way, you are hearing consistent advice. At Kaiser Permanente, we do have teams, so you may be seen by one of the team members, but it is always important to keep your regular pediatrician involved. Please ask me questions. If you have questions and they are not answered, then I have not done my job. I encourage you to register at Kaiser Permanente.org so that you can email my office as well.

How I thrive

I grew up playing soccer. This was the main way for me to thrive when I was younger. I played in college and was in a semi-pro league at age 15, but had to stop because of multiple knee injuries. However, there are many ways to thrive even with injuries like this. I regularly go to the gym where I use the elliptical machines, I walk or jog on the treadmill, and I swim. I practice playing soccer with my son and occasionally play basketball. The way to thrive is to remain vigorous and consistent in your activity whatever you choose to do. Even if there are limitations due to injury or other issues, be as active as you can.
