About me

Hello! I am a urogynecologist, researcher, and mom of 3 boys, and you’re likely to hear something about my research and my sons if you’re my patient. Talking about urogynecologic conditions can feel embarrassing, so I do my best to help my patients know they’re not alone and that good solutions exist.

Biography

I grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland and am the oldest of 3 siblings. I have lived in Japan, New England, the Midwest, and now San Diego, where I plan to be until I retire! I live with my husband, our 3 sons, and our husky, Oakley.

I’ve wanted to be a doctor since I was 9, inspired by stories of my great-grandfather, a family physician in rural Maine. I care deeply about community health as well as medicine, and I’ve built a career that allows me to address both through research and clinical practice. My research focuses on connecting women with solutions for pelvic floor disorders, and my clinical work treats women with pelvic floor disorders.

Much of my volunteer work supports scientific advancement through reviewing abstracts, manuscripts, and grants. I serve on the Editorial Board for Urogynecology, the journal of the American Urogynecologic Society (AUGS), and served on the AUGS Board of Directors from 2022–2025.

About my practice

I am a urogynecologist, which means I treat conditions like bladder leakage (also called urinary incontinence), accidental bowel leakage, and pelvic organ prolapse.

My philosophy centers on listening closely to patients to understand their priorities and help them choose solutions that align with their goals. I frequently recommend pelvic floor physical therapy, as many of these conditions can improve through muscle strengthening and coordination. I work with an exceptional team and collaborate closely with my surgical partners when patients choose operative treatment.

Our entire team works hard to create a comfortable, supportive environment. I welcome anyone experiencing urogynecologic symptoms to request a referral to urogynecology.

How I thrive

Working at Kaiser Permanente truly feels like my dream job. I love my colleagues, my patients, and our larger care team. I appreciate the organization’s focus on wellbeing and health, which allows me to help patients live their best lives, while truly enjoying my work.

Being outdoors is how I thrive, whether it’s an early morning trip to the Ocean Beach dog beach or a hike with my family at Mission Trails or Torrey Pines. I enjoy swimming in the ocean, eating spicy food, and laughing with my friends and family.

When I’m not watching one boy or another play baseball or basketball, I’m at the Taekwondo dojang working on my next belt.
