About me

Thank you for visiting my Web page. I practice orthopedic surgery and have a subspecialty interest in sports medicine and arthroscopic reconstructive surgery of the knee and shoulder. I have been working at Kaiser Permanente since 1994. I am currently the chief of orthopedics at Baldwin Park Medical Center. If you have an orthopedic problem, my team and I will do our best to help you stay active and healthy.

Biography

I grew up in Northern California and moved to Southern California to attend UCLA, where I studied engineering and stayed on to complete a master’s degree in biomechanical engineering. I then attended Keck School of Medicine of USC. My interest in biomechanical engineering led me to orthopedic surgery, and I completed my internship and orthopedic residency at the Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center. After residency, I spent an extra year completing a sports medicine fellowship that focused on arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery. I specialize in orthopedic sports medicine with an expertise in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the knee and shoulder. I take care of all levels of athletes, from recreational to professional.

About my practice

My goal is to help all of my patients to stay as healthy and active as possible. I’m involved with a number of research projects that specifically deal with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstructions, and I lead the Kaiser Permanente National ACL Registry. The information we have derived from our research has helped us to improve the care for all members undergoing ACL reconstructions within Kaiser Permanente. I also enjoy teaching. I’m a clinical professor of orthopedics at Keck School of Medicine of USC. I am a member of a number of orthopedic societies, including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the American Orthopedic Association—and I’ve held a number of committee positions within these organizations.

How I thrive

I believe that exercise is an important aspect of a healthy lifestyle. In addition to taking care of athletes, I also enjoy participating in athletics. After playing water polo in college, I turned to endurance sports and have competed in a number of marathons and triathlons, including the Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii. I like to spend my free time surfing and ocean paddling, and I enjoy time at the beach and in the mountains with my family.
