Where I practice
Hi! I’m Dr. Kodel, a family medicine physician with Kaiser Permanente in Lancaster. I have been with Kaiser Permanente since 1989. I am proud of the continuity of care we provide our members. Many families have been with me for more than a decade, and we have developed close ties.
I am curious by nature and find medicine to be a nice blend of scientific investigation and human interaction. While I could have been happy following several career paths, good fortune and happenstance drew me to medicine, a profession I find most rewarding. I went to medical school at the University of Miami in Florida and then came to California to perform my internship and residency in family practice at UCLA. I keep abreast of the many changes we encounter in medicine by participating in continuing education, talking with colleagues and reviewing medical journals regularly. Kaiser Permanente does a great job of helping us stay informed and aware of new research and effective treatments.
About my practice
I like to listen to my members and shape my approach based on their specific needs. No two members are the same, so the way in which I handle each case is unique. I do encourage everyone to treat both body and mind with respect and help them find effective ways to take care of themselves.
How I thrive
I spend a few minutes each day exercising in my office. It helps me stay alert and focused. I pack my own lunch to ensure I always eat a well-balanced meal and have time to spend with my co-workers. In the evenings, I often ride my stationary bike as I review case files and respond to emails on my computer. Human interaction is where I find my fulfillment. I learn and grow by being an active participant in life. With my wife, three children, and grandchild, plus two Pomeranians, a box turtle and many friends, we enjoy new adventures on a daily basis.
