About me
Welcome to Kaiser Permanente! I am a board-certified Family Physician who also has been doing HIV care for almost 30 years. I see all ages and enjoy helping folks stay healthy and avoid illness.
Biography
I am a country boy, having grown up in a town of 350 people in the Gold Country of California. I was raised by 2 nurses. My father went on to become a Nurse Practitioner, working as essentially a country doctor for over 40 years in my home town. I studied biology at Santa Clara University, where I met my wife, and then went on to UC San Francisco for medical school. After doing my residency in Redding, California, I have worked in many settings, including several community health centers, my own solo private practice, and now here at Kaiser Permanente in Bakersfield. During that journey, I have helped run offices and whole clinic systems. I am currently the Assistant Chief of Family Medicine here in Bakersfield.
About my practice
As a Family Physician, I greatly enjoy taking care of folks from birth to old age, I am also certified as an HIV specialist, having worked within the HIV epidemic since 1990. What a journey that has been. Other special interests of mine are making sure LGBTQ folks get the affirming, high-quality care they deserve. I have been helping transgender folks with their care for the past several years as well.
How I thrive
Having grown up in the woods, I thrive when I can get out in to the back country. That might be doing Telemark skiing, biking, hiking, or traveling in my RV around our great national parks.
