Where I practice
Hello, and welcome to my Web page. I practice maternal fetal medicine. This specialty is also known as perinatology or high-risk obstetrics. Patients are referred to me because they have multiple medical problems or have a baby that may be at risk for a birth defect.
I was raised in New Orleans. While I was attending college and medical school in Louisiana, I was also a professional waiter. It was a great way to meet all kinds of people and make money while I was in school. After I finished my residency in obstetrics and gynecology, I came to California to pursue specialty training in high-risk obstetrics at UC Irvine, and met my wife-to-be. When I completed my training in 1992, my wife and I moved back to New Orleans, where I worked at a large multi-specialty clinic. I told my wife we would return to California whenever she wanted. In 2005, we returned with our two children. She and I are both very happy living here and working at Riverside Medical Center.
About my practice
I specialize in ultrasound-directed prenatal diagnosis in the first and second trimesters. I perform first trimester chorionic villus sampling (CVS) and second-trimester amniocentesis, as well as diagnostic ultrasound and fetal echocardiography. I personally trained my ultrasound technician, who might assist you during your visit. I also collaborate on cases with other obstetricians. Your obstetrician may send you to me for a consultation if you have hard-to-manage or multiple medical problems. I will make a plan of care for your pregnancy, and sometimes will see you along with your regular doctor.
How I thrive
My family and I love horses. We have a small ranch where we spend most of our free time. We breed and train warmblood horses for jumping. I spend a lot of my time off working around the ranch fixing all the things that break such as fences and irrigation, and maintaining the pastures, barns, and trees. I also help my wife with the foals and pregnant mares. I enjoy exercising and do both aerobic and resistance training. Recently, I have also become an online missionary, which provides me the opportunity to encourage and share the word of God with people around the world.
