Kaiser Permanente physician
My gender: Male

Welcome to my Web page. I have been a part of Kaiser Permanente for more than 50 years, first as a member and then as a health care provider. I am board certified in family medicine, geriatric medicine, and hospice and palliative medicine.
I make house calls! I am incredibly grateful for my practice, which allows me to help people in nursing homes and their own homes. I enjoy the opportunity to provide compassionate care without the time constraints of a clinic schedule. A home visit also establishes an immediate connection with a member and his or her community that would otherwise take months or years to develop.
About 40 percent of my work week is spent providing hospice and palliative care. Helping people at the end of their lives and providing relief is a tremendous privilege. I believe that one’s end of life becomes easier if the person providing the medical care has helped others at this stage of life. The other major part of my work week is spent helping people in nursing homes, either for short-term rehabilitation or long-term care. The remainder of my time is used consulting at the medical center, serving in the Memory Assessment Clinic, and teaching physicians-in-training (residents).
As a geriatrician, I know that flexibility of the body and mind are the best predictors of successful aging. Physicians are no exception. Accordingly, I have attempted to complete one new physical, intellectual, or spiritual goal each year. In the past, I’ve learned Morse code, gone mountain unicycling, performed handstand push-ups, and been taught leadership skills. I enjoy fishing, chess, technology, camping, growing my relationship with my wife, and raising my sons.
