Welcome to my Web page! I’ve been with Kaiser Permanente since 1999 and have a beautiful practice in Ventura.
I’m originally from Houston, Texas. I attended Texas A&M University for college. I considered doing research, so I spent some time at the National Institutes of Health. I was accepted in the MD/PhD program at Baylor College of Medicine. I quickly dropped the PhD part of the program because I fell in love with patient care. I did my residency at UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica, in a program where the family medicine residents did everything—from assisting in operations, delivering babies, and, of course, primary care, and patient education. I also pioneered an elective in complementary medicine. California seemed really right for me, so I searched for a health care organization that would accept my open and friendly style of practice. Kaiser Permanente was exactly what I was looking for.
I’m fortunate to have a diverse member population—I see everyone from babies to octogenarians in my practice. My focus is on preventative medicine. I use all the tools of western medicine, but also have a strong respect for complementary medicine. My approach is to use pharmaceuticals as a last resort—only when lifestyle changes aren't sufficient.
Yes, I practice what I preach. I’m a certified yoga instructor. I exercise daily. I swim, take yoga, do Pilates, and lift weights. Since I live near the beach, I take frequent beach walks and swim in the ocean. I go to the farmer's markets to get local fresh fruits and vegetables that are in season. I’m an avid cook and enjoy the Mediterranean diet. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling and gardening.
