Where I practice
Greetings and welcome to my Web page! I believe that a great patient-doctor relationship starts with getting to know each other. I am pleased to share information about myself and my practice as a psychiatrist who specializes in the treatment of children, adolescents, and young adults.
As a child, I was always interested in the medical field and had plenty of inspiration because my mom is a registered nurse. While in high school, I was fortunate to work at a local children's hospital and that's when I knew a career in medicine was in my future. I attended college at UC Irvine and medical school at UC Davis. I completed my residency (training that all doctors go through in their chosen specialty) in psychiatry and a fellowship (even more specialized training after residency) in child and adolescent psychiatry at Stanford University. I am married and the parent of three fantastic kids who I learn from each day!
About my practice
The problems I treat have both a biological (based in the brain) and psychological (having to do with thoughts and behavior) basis. Medications can be useful for reducing psychiatric symptoms, but I believe strongly in non-medication treatments such as individual and group therapy, parenting education, holistic/complementary medicine, and lifestyle changes such as diet, exercise, and stress reduction. My practice philosophy centers on partnership. Even though you are entrusting me to diagnose and provide treatment, we are working together to improve your quality of life. I will support you during difficult times and cheer with you as progress is made. It is truly a privilege to be part of my patients' lives, and I look forward to a successful partnership with you.
How I thrive
My key to living well and thriving in a busy world is balance. Spending time with my husband and kids is a priority in my life; however, making time for myself is also important. I like to exercise on the treadmill or elliptical, read a good novel, and listen to music (all at the same time!) to reduce stress. I am also guilty of exploring the world of technology with some fun game apps on my phone. Traveling, learning to speak Spanish, and baking with my kids are other interests that I enjoy. Most importantly, I believe that being in the moment and appreciating the present instead of focusing excessively on the past or future keeps everything in perspective.
