About me
Hello, and welcome to my Web page. I hope this page will help you to get to know me a bit better. I believe in lifestyle medicine to promote good physical and mental health. As a former professional triathlete and life-long athlete I am a strong advocate for great nutrition and proper sleep as first line treatment for many health conditions. I believe that exercise is medicine, nutrition is medicine and see myself a guide to helping you live a long and healthy life.
Biography
I grew up in New England and completed much of my education on the East Coast, but now call Southern California home. I attended medical school at The University of Vermont. I completed my intern year at Duke University, and then my family medicine residency and sports medicine fellowship at Kaiser Permanente in Fontana, CA. When I completed my training I loved working here so much I stayed and moved my office down the hallway. I have three kids and my wife is a physician as well.
About my practice
As a family medicine doctor with a specialization in sports medicine, I focus on treating the whole person, not just one part. I believe that exercise, nutrition and sleep are the best medicines and always reach for these first. I strongly encourage all my patients to be active participants in their care, and I try to engage patients in a discussion regarding all treatment options before making a shared decision how to best proceed. I treat patients in the hospital as well as the clinic. I also enjoy procedures and am able to do quite a few right here in the office from IUD, skin biopsy, joint and tendon injections, as well dry needling to improve chronic tendon pain, lastly I perform vasectomy Thursday evenings. I also enjoy teaching and often work with medical students and residents in clinic. Regardless of the treatment or medical concern almost all my patients leave with a exercise prescription.
How I thrive
As a former professional athlete exercise is critical to my own well-being. I enjoy running, biking, yoga, cooking, spending time with my family as well as involvement in professional medical organizations including the local county medical society as well as California and American Academy of Family Physicians. I am a strong believer that physicians need to take a leadership role in local, state, and national public policy and health advocacy, in order to improve the health of individuals as well as that of our nation.
