About Me
I'm a board-certified hematologist practicing at Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center. I was born in Honolulu and spent much of my childhood in California.
I earned my medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. I completed my internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of California, San Diego Medical Center, where I also completed my fellowship in hematology and oncology.
After medical training, I returned to Oahu to be close to my mother and extended family. My deep connection to the community, along with losing both my father and grandfather to cancer during medical training, have profoundly shaped my commitment to oncology.
About my practice
I've always had a passion for both science and connecting with people, and medicine allows me to bring those two worlds together. My clinical interests include general hematology and oncology care with a focus on cancers of the urinary and reproductive systems.
I collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams – including radiology, pathology, surgery, radiation oncology, and genetics – to deliver highly coordinated and personalized care. I believe this team-based approach leads to the most informed and effective treatment decisions.
Serving as past president of the Hawaii Society of Clinical Oncology, the local affiliate of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), has been a vital part of my work to support and advance cancer care in our community. I continue to lead efforts to maintain Kaiser Permanente Hawaii's certification through the ASCO Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI). This nationally standardized certification process helps us continuously strengthen our quality and safety protocols so that patients across our Hawaii locations receive consistently high standards of cancer care.
I'm also a member of the National Cancer Institute Community Oncology Research Program and serve as a sub-investigator for several national research groups, including the SWOG Cancer Research Network, which conducts large-scale cancer clinical trials; NRG Oncology, which focuses on multi-modality cancer treatment studies; and the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology, which leads national trials in cancer treatment, prevention, and care quality.
Clinical trials were a significant part of my oncology training, and I've always seen them as essential to advancing cancer care. One of the key reasons I chose to join Kaiser Permanente was its strong oncology clinical trials program. Clinical research provides patients with access to promising new treatments and helps shape the future of medicine for generations to come.
In my practice, I aim to balance evidence-based care with empathy, always striving to communicate clearly and compassionately. I treat every patient as I would my own loved ones.
How I thrive
I'm happily married and the proud parent of three wonderful kids. I try to lead by example, maintaining a healthy lifestyle through regular exercise and nutritious eating. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, surfing, and playing soccer – activities that help keep me grounded and energized.
