About Me
Hello, I’m Janie. Welcome to my Web page! A native Californian, I am excited to set my roots in San Diego after living abroad for the past few years. I am grateful to be a part of the Kaiser Permanente team and to have the opportunity to take care of you.
Biography
In 2011 and 2012, I received my master’s in public health from Johns Hopkins University with a focus on women’s health and my medical degree from the University of Utah. I returned to California, where I completed my obstetric/gynecological residency at UC San Diego in 2016. Having always been interested in global health, I accepted a global health fellowship and lived in Guyana, South America, between 2016 and 2018. I taught and trained local Guyanese obstetric/gynecological residents at the primary referral hospital and began their first gynecologic laparoscopy program. During this time, I returned to Kaiser Permanente in San Diego intermittently as a per diem physician and am grateful to join as a full-time staff member.
About my practice
My experience in public and global health has given me a global perspective on the impact of women’s health within a community and society, but my favorite aspect of medicine remains the one-on-one interactions with members. It is important to me that members understand and feel empowered to help make informed decisions about their own health. Medicine is constantly changing, and I am committed to lifelong learning so I can provide individualized, high-quality care for you.
How I thrive
Boredom is my enemy, and I ward it off with a growing list of interests that include reading, listening to too many podcasts, watching TED talks, searching for tasty chai lattes, hiking, tennis, volleyball, basketball, and snorkeling. I have succumbed to the travel bug and have travelled to many different countries including Romania, Ghana, Singapore, American Samoa, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago, and Costa Rica. Having been “on-the-go” for so long, I am also exploring the role that meditation and mindfulness can play in our busy lives.
