About Me
I was born in South Vietnam and moved to the U.S. with my family when I was 13 years old. I went to college and medical school in Washington, DC and did my cardiology fellowship in San Francisco, California. I moved to Hawaii because I felt the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group (HPMG) offered the type of practice model that was best for patient care. I also liked the ocean, the mountains, and the easygoing spirit of the people, all of which remind me of how I grew up.
About my practice
I knew in my second year in medical school that I wanted to be a cardiologist. I like all aspects of cardiology from prevention to diagnosis and treatment. There is a tremendous amount of research, data, medical and technical devices, and interventions available to help patients. Cardiology gives me the opportunity to help, to heal, and to make a difference. My care philosophy is to inform, support and empower my patients. It is so rewarding when patients feel or do better as a result of treatments rendered. In addition, I appreciate the opportunity to help patients and families when dealing with difficult decisions about their cardiac conditions. At HPMG, I like that we practice comprehensive, integrated care. I currently serve as liaison to the Kaiser Permanente Quality Assurance Program. I am a "super user" for our electronic health record system, which means I am a leader in the development, implementation, and training of physicians in the use of our electronic medical record.
How I thrive
To stay fit, I run or swim four to five days per week. My personal interests include reading, traveling, and cooking. I have over 500 recipes and humbly consider myself a gourmet cook.
