About Me

Hello, and welcome. It has been a pleasure joining Kaiser Permanente, and I would love to tell you a little about myself and my practice. I am privileged to work with outstanding colleagues here in neurosurgery and at all stages of health care delivery. I look forward to meeting you!

Biography

I was born in Long Island and raised in central New Jersey, where I lived through high school. I went to college at a small liberal arts school called Muhlenberg College in Pennsylvania, where I received dual degrees in psychology and biology. Following college, I returned to New Jersey for medical school. In medical school, I came under the mentorship of several fantastic neurosurgeons who convinced me that neurosurgery was going to be my life's work. After medical school, I came to Los Angeles to train in neurosurgery at UCLA. During my residency, I also obtained a doctoral degree in neuroscience, studying the mechanisms and physiology of epilepsy. Following residency, I was privileged to perform a fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh with some outstanding mentors. My family and I were excited to return to Southern California to join Kaiser Permanente. We feel lucky to call Los Angeles our home.

About my practice

My practice philosophy is simple. I treat Kaiser Permanente members as if they were my family members, and your children as if they were my own. Medicine, despite years of groundbreaking discovery and scientific advancement, is still very much an art of helping people when they are in need of it. As a physician, this relationship is my greatest responsibility and reward, and something I never take for granted. As a pediatric neurosurgeon, I take care of a wide range of issues, including tumors of the brain and spine, hydrocephalus, epilepsy surgery, vascular disease (AVM s, aneurysms, moyamoya disease), craniofacial anomalies, spasticity, and congenital and acquired spinal disorders in children. I also have a clinical interest in adult epilepsy surgery. As a general neurosurgeon, I am happy to take care of a variety of neurosurgical problems in adults as well. I try to offer minimally invasive procedures when appropriate, leading to shorter hospital stays, less pain, and faster recovery.

How I thrive

When I am not taking care of members, I spend as much time as I can with my family. I have 3 children who, along with my wife, are the greatest joys of my life. I value physical fitness and try to exercise several days a week. Other hobbies include barbecue cooking, music, bicycling, and do-it-yourself projects at home.
