About Me

Hi! My name is Bill, and I welcome you to my Web page. I have been practicing optometry in San Diego for over 33 years, so many of you may have met me in person at some time. For the last 14 years, I have been working here at Kaiser Permanente. I became an optometrist to help people, and that has been my joy all these years.

Biography

I was born in Canada. My father was a mining geologist, and that took our family to several beautiful but remote mining towns, including one in Newfoundland and another in Liberia, West Africa. I initially was an exploration mining geologist working in the North Woods of Canada, but left that career to find a way to work with people, which led me to optometry and San Diego. My wife and I have been married for 41 years and we have two grown daughters.

About my practice

The best thing about optometry is that you can help people live better by improving their vision without side effects. I am fortunate to practice orthoptics as a specialty in the optometry department. That allows me to help children and adults use their visual system more efficiently, which in turn allows them to perform better in school and life.

How I thrive

I thrive by spending time with my family, enjoying outdoor activities like surfing, roller blading, and hiking. I have also enjoyed inner growth through meditation and yoga, which I have practiced daily for over 40 years. I enjoy music, playing the harmonica, and singing in our church choir for many years.
