About Me
Hi, I am Dr. Michael McBeth, and welcome to my Web page. In the Anesthesiology/Interventional Pain Management Department, my goal is to alleviate the pain of members who suffer from chronic pain and cancer. For 21 years, I have enjoyed working with Kaiser Permanente, both as a clinician and as an educator.
Biography
I grew up in Denver and learned to appreciate the outdoors at an early age. I joined the United States Navy after high school in order to see the world and ended up operating a nuclear power plant on a fast-attack submarine off the East Coast. Afterward, I attended college and medical school at the University of Colorado (Go Buffs!) through a Navy scholarship. Multiple deployments as a naval flight surgeon aboard aircraft carriers led me to Europe, South America, Asia, Central America, and Africa, as well as the Indian Ocean. As a Naval Reserve officer, I served in Operation Iraqi Freedom with the United States Marine Corps. I am now retired from the US Navy, but I still share sea stories with members and friends. I've been married to my wonderful wife for almost 40 years, and we have 2 grown children of whom I am very proud. I enjoy baseball immensely and try to visit at least one Major League Baseball stadium every year with my family. I also enjoy hiking and fishing in the Sierras, playing guitar, and traveling to unusual places.
About my practice
I have worked as a board-certified anesthesiologist and fellowship-trained pain management physician for more than 2 decades. I practice with a group of board-certified, fellowship-trained physicians, along with a dedicated and hardworking staff in the Interventional Pain Department at our Garfield Specialty Center. The department strives to include state-of-the-art interventional procedures and treatment of pain as a chronic disease. We evaluate and treat conditions such as cancer pain, chronic musculoskeletal disorders of the neck and back, and extremity disorders such as complex regional pain syndromes, as well as a broad range of neuropathic pain. I also have the pleasure to teach resident physicians and postgraduate fellows at Kaiser Permanente.
How I thrive
I realize the importance of living a full and healthy life, which is why I chose to be a vegan, to exercise regularly, and to stand most of the day. I take time to enjoy traveling with my wife and family and to maximize my relaxing outdoor time (if you call backpacking and mountain biking relaxing). Life is a constant process of learning (which is why I love medicine). I also enrich my life with outdoor photography, cultural experiences, and the study of music, art, and philosophy.
