About Me
I grew up in Wilmington, Delaware, where I decided to be a doctor when we learned about human biology in my fifth grade science class. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree from Georgetown University. After 2 years as a middle school teacher in Baltimore, Maryland, I earned my medical degree as well as a master's degree in clinical research from Washington University in St. Louis. I chose to pursue combined training in both internal medicine and pediatrics at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, where I spent an additional year as an internal medicine chief resident. I met my Coloradan husband while we worked together on a pediatric malnutrition project in Malawi, Africa, and we are now excited to raise our 2 sons in Denver. I was honored to be recognized as a 5280 Magazine Top Doctor in 2019.
About my practice
I am board certified in both pediatrics and internal medicine. My panel is always open to pediatric patients, and variably open to new adult patients. I love caring for patients of all ages, and believe that the most important role of a doctor is that of a teacher. A strong foundation in the scientific evidence behind medical practice informs the way I teach my patients to better care for themselves and their children. I believe a successful doctor-patient relationship relies on both people listening and striving to understand each other. My favorite part of being a doctor is listening to patients (and their parents) in order to understand how best to teach them about their health.
How I thrive
I thrive when I exercise my intellect as well as my body and creative mind daily. I enjoy drawing, painting, hiking and swimming in my free time. Since the birth of my sons in 2011 and 2014, I also enjoy devoting my time to caring for them and watching them grow and learn. My husband and I are avid Scrabble fans.
