About Me
I was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. I went away to St. Georges University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies for my medical degree and then returned home to the University of Texas Health Science Center to do my internal medicine internship and residency. My husband and I went through medical school together, which made the journey both challenging and fun. We were fortunate to have parents who were supportive of our dreams and decisions all along the way. When we came to Hawaii on vacation, we loved the outdoor lifestyle, the family-oriented culture, and the beauty of the islands. We’re now so happy to have made Maui our home!
About my practice
When I was deciding on a career, I wanted to find a profession that allowed me to help people in the most meaningful way. The internal medicine specialty involves piecing together a lot of information into a logical picture, as one would solve a puzzle or a mystery. Finding a solution and then seeing my patients’ health improve is the most satisfying part of my job.
In my opinion, the most comprehensive way to keep up with developments in medical research is by reading professional journals, taking continuing medical education courses, and consulting my colleagues on challenging cases.
The Hawaii Permanente Medical Group (HPMG) shares my goal of providing high-quality care to the people of Maui. Collaboration among providers, excellent support services, continuing education opportunities, and the latest technology all combine to make practicing at HPMG a pleasure.
In today’s complex medical system, I ask myself how I’d want my own family members to be treated. This rule of thumb has guided my own approach to delivering care and served me well over the years.
Helping people through a difficult or vulnerable time in their lives is a powerful bonding experience. I strive to ensure that my patients and their families understand their conditions and treatment options so that they have confidence in making decisions about their care.
How I thrive
In my opinion, the keys to maintaining good mental and physical health are exercise, healthy food, and a great sense of humor. It also helps me to spend quality time with my family and friends, and I enjoy exploring our beautiful island.
