About Me
My name is Jennifer Ellice, and I am a physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Kaiser Permanente’s Downey Medical Center.
Biography
I grew up in 9 different countries all over the world and moved to the United States to attend university. I completed my undergraduate education at Princeton University, where I majored in history. From there I moved to New York City, where I worked for a time as a counselor in a methadone clinic. Working with some of the most disadvantaged people in the city gave me a great appreciation for the work of healing and caring, and it also prompted a desire to become a physician. I left New York City to pursue medicine and attended the University of Rochester School of Medicine, where I earned my medical degree, and then Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, to complete a 4-year residency in emergency medicine before joining Kaiser Permanente in 2008.
About my practice
Practicing emergency medicine is not a calling for everyone, but for me it is deeply gratifying. We work days and nights, holidays and weekends, and are always prepared to do whatever is needed when it comes to helping our members in an emergency. This means that we are often finding ourselves face-to-face with some of the most challenging aspects of practicing medicine in an ever-changing environment.
How I thrive
The Emergency Department affords me the privilege of learning to live in the moment. I thrive by focusing on the here and now, skiing, playing tennis, gardening, practicing yoga, cooking, and reading.
