About Me

I was born and raised in Portland. After finishing college at the University of Oregon and medical school at Oregon Health & Science University, I completed my residency in internal medicine at Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals. Living in Wisconsin deepened my appreciation for the Northwest. My wife and I returned to the Portland in 1987, and I've been a provider in the Kaiser Permanente Northwest Region ever since.

About my practice

I have been fortunate to work in many areas over the years. For 15-plus years, there was a mix of office-based practice at Mt Scott Clinic and hospital work at Kaiser Sunnyside Medical Center. I was able to follow this with about seven years working as a hospitalist at Kaiser Sunnyside. In 2010, I transitioned to the Department of Geriatric and Long Term Care. Most of my time and energy are now focused on working with people in skilled nursing care and the rehabilitation setting. I truly enjoy the Greatest Generation and am seeing more "baby boomers" (of which I am a member) with time.

How I thrive

My wife Kris, who is a teacher, helps us maintain balance in our lives. Our two kids are off to college and beyond. We enjoy the outdoors as much as possible with working in the yard, running, bicycling, inflatable kayaking, hiking, windsurfing, and skiing. I thrive on carbohydrates, and have been baking with a sourdough starter for over 20 years!
