About Me

Hello, and welcome to my Web page. Thank you for taking the time to get to know me better. I very much appreciate the opportunity and privilege of taking part in your or your family member’s healthcare. It is always my sincere hope that I can make a positive difference in someone else’s health and quality of life.

Biography

After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1991, I attended medical school at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. I completed a General Surgery internship at Bethesda Naval Hospital and then served as a Naval Flight Surgeon for Marine Corps F/A-18 jet squadrons based out of Southern California. I completed my residency at the Naval Medical Center San Diego (1999-2004) and then served as a general otolaryngologist in Charleston, South Carolina. My rhinology fellowship was with Dr. Winston Vaughan, founder of the California Sinus Centers and Stanford Sinus Center. I continued my service as the first fellowship-trained rhinologist in the Navy until retiring as a Captain and joining Kaiser Permanente in 2017.

About my practice

As a rhinology subspecialist, my area of expertise includes the endoscopic surgical management of complex and challenging conditions in and around the nose and sinuses. This includes: chronic sinusitis with or without polyps, including fungal disease, aspirin exacerbated respiratory disease, and cystic fibrosis; recurrent sinus infections; recurrent sinus barotrauma related to flying and/or diving; and benign and malignant tumors. I care for many patients that have failed extensive medical therapy and multiple surgeries. I can work collaboratively with my neurosurgery colleagues to perform endoscopic skull base surgery, which includes repair of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks and meningoencephaloceles, and removal of benign and malignant tumors of the brain and skull base. I also work with ophthalmology to perform endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) for excessive tearing and endoscopic orbital decompression for thyroid eye disease. In addition to my surgical duties, I perform an array of clinic-based procedures, including balloon dilation of the sinuses, polyp removal, turbinate reduction, and removal of skin cancers involving cosmetic and functionally sensitive areas of the face with same-day reconstruction.

How I thrive

I have been blessed with more than I deserve and have an amazing wife and five children that mean everything to me. I thrive by spending as much time as possible with my family. I am passionate about soccer and enjoy cooking and the outdoors.
