About Me

Hello, and welcome to my Web page. My name is Dr. Jayakrishnan Krishnakurup. I also go by Dr. Jay because it is easier to pronounce. I am a gastroenterologist at Kaiser Permanente. I completed my fellowship at Bridgeport Hospital/ Yale School of Medicine. I have spent the better part of a decade on the East Coast, and I am sure glad to be here in sunny California.

Biography

I grew up in a country where language, culture, food, dress, and religion vary extensively. People are united in this diversity, and I have been exposed to people who think, act, and rejoice differently. This experience has strengthened my ability to be patient and compassionate with my patients. I moved from India to Los Angeles in 2005 and fell in love with the sunny California weather. However, my family and I moved to the East Coast to further my medical education. I have undergone training in the fields of internal medicine, hepatology, geriatrics, and gastroenterology. While each field is fascinating, being a GI doctor presents the most diagnostic complexities. I’m grateful to be able to contribute to the field of gastroenterology, and I’m honored when members choose me as their physician.

About my practice

I have always been fascinated by the art of medicine and the complexity of clinical problems. I believe as a physician I can be successful when I am open and honest with my patients; I discuss their treatment options based on evidence based medicine and give them the freedom to choose their treatment plans. My training in geriatrics has given me the ability to identify the functional, social and cultural issues of my patients in detail. This helps me to fully encompass the available support system and modify them to best serve the patient.

How I thrive

I like to spend my free time with my wife, my two children, and friends. We like to travel and taking long, scenic drives. I love to play soccer and volleyball. But nothing beats sitting at home and watching a movie after a delicious dinner prepared by my wife. My family and I are fond of the simple life in a small community, where people are not strangers and small acts of kindness are appreciated.
