Hello. My name is Edmund Burke, named after an Irish philosopher and statesman from the 1700's.

Biography

I grew up in Boston, Massachusetts. I was the middle child in a family of seven children. I did my undergraduate studies at Duke University, where I majored in biomedical engineering. After graduating magna cum laude, I worked for three years as an electrical engineer in the Gulf of Mexico. I decided to pursue a medical career to join my oldest brother who is a surgeon. I attended medical school at Louisiana State University, New Orleans, and did my surgical residency and training at the University of California, San Francisco. Following my general surgery training, I completed a two-year fellowship in surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

About my practice

I have been a practicing surgical oncologist and general surgeon for almost seventeen years. My first five years post-training were spent at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Hawaii. As the only Kaiser Permanente surgical oncologist for the state, I developed broad clinical experience in complex benign and malignant conditions. I became chief of general surgery and surgical oncology in 1999. I married in 2001, and in 2002, I returned to California, to be closer to my wife's family. I began my surgical oncology practice at the Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Center. My specialty is minimally invasive surgical oncology and general surgery. I maintain an interest in research and minimally invasive devices.

How I thrive

My activities outside the hospital revolve around my wife, my young children, and coworkers. My hobbies are learning Spanish, practicing golf with my daughter, and playing soccer and lacrosse with my son. I plan to join a bicycling group made up of Kaiser employees, and ride down the Oregon and California coastline. But first I need a bike, and no, I won't be wearing spandex.
