About Me

Welcome to my Web page. I am happy to have this chance to introduce myself to you and tell you about my practice. I feel very fortunate to work at Kaiser Permanente because of my wonderful colleagues and patients, and I look forward to working with you to care for your health.

Biography

I grew up in Tucson, Arizona. After high school, I went to Massachusetts Institute of Technology to study physics and biology. I returned to Tucson for medical school, and then moved to Long Beach, California. I completed an internal medicine residency at UC Irvine, Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, and the Long Beach VA Medical Center. I really enjoyed helping respiratory patients and working in the intensive care Units, so I completed a pulmonary/critical care medicine fellowship at UC Irvine and City of Hope. I joined Kaiser Permanente right after my training, and I have been here ever since.

About my practice

Medicine as a career is a very special opportunity to connect and help people in a meaningful way, utilizing medical skills and knowledge, but also listening and responding to what patients need. My pulmonary colleagues and I work with our nurses and staff as a team, so that we can be maximally available to our patients. The group practice at Kaiser Permanente allows all of us to do our best to help you together. We enjoy helping people become — and then stay — healthy.

How I thrive

Keeping balance in my life is very important to me. When I was younger, I was an avid mountain climber, climbing Mount Whitney, Mount McKinley, the Matterhorn, Aconcagua in Argentina, and Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa with my wife. I enjoy running, bicylcing, and swimming, and I have finished the Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Triathlon and the Long Beach Triathlon several times. I also make it a priority to spend as much time as I can with my family. My son was a club soccer player, and I referee a lot of games. He is at UC Berkeley studying engineering, and he and I climbed Mount Whitney in one day in August 2013. My daughter graduated from Reed College, and she is working as an art conservator. She and I swam from Alcatraz to San Francisco a few years ago. My family enjoys camping and traveling, especially to Europe, the Caribbean, Australia, and Russia.
