About Me

Welcome to my Web page. If you have need of rehabilitation services for an injury or illness, members of our department will be pleased to help with your recovery. I am proud to be associated with not only our department but also the excellent staff of physicians at our Woodland Hills Medical Center. I believe that the integrated services we can provide at our medical center allow us to provide more effective care.

Biography

I grew up and was educated in Minnesota, where, yes, I shoveled snow in the winter and played hockey every winter day as a child, but was envious most of my life of those living in the milder climate of Southern California. I was fortunate enough to find an opportunity to begin practicing medicine in Southern California in 1991. In addition to providing medical care, I like to think I was of some value to my community the last dozen years as a volunteer referee for youth soccer until my son and daughter left home to start college.

About my practice

My specialty training was in rehabilitation medicine. This taught me that in addition to a correct diagnosis and relief of pain and discomfort, restoration of function is vital to recovery and well-being. The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is entrusted to treat complex musculoskeletal problems and spinal conditions, without surgery if at all possible. Although conservative care is not the solution for every problem, for most conditions it is wise to try this first, as the safest and most frequently successful treatment.

How I thrive

I believe that daily physical activity is essential to optimum health. For me, this is usually bicycling, if I do not have a tennis match scheduled. I bicycle to work two or three days a week and was able to complete two Century bicycle rides for the first time in 2007. I plan to participate in at least one Century ride in 2008 as well. I also manage to consume fruit daily and vegetables most days, and, yes, I like the taste!
