About Me

Welcome to my Web page. I’m happy to have this chance to introduce myself to you and tell you about my work as a physician and as a physician administrator at Kaiser Permanente.

Biography

I am a native Southern Californian (fourth generation) who grew up in Orange County, and I remember a time when agriculture seemed to dominate the landscape here. I received some of my education abroad. During my training, I couldn't wait to get back here to start my career and raise my family. My experience in training to become a physician, including my years away from home, helps me appreciate all that we have here. I believe good health is the key to enjoying life, and I'm glad I can help our members thrive. I am an internal medicine physician with subspecialty training in pulmonary and critical care medicine. I am board certified in internal medicine and pulmonary medicine, and am a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians. I have some administrative responsibilities at the Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Center. I am director of the Intensive Care Unit, director of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program, and director of a portion of our pulmonary medicine laboratory.

About my practice

I am a staff pulmonologist and intensivist. I see patients in my office, but over half of my time is spent evaluating and treating hospitalized patients with complex respiratory illness who are in our intensive care unit. We offer highly specialized surgical treatments for members who have some forms of advanced emphysema and lung cancer. Our pulmonary rehabilitation program offered to our patients from all of Southern California allows these patients to obtain the best possible results. In addition, I am chairman of our Critical Care Committee and a member of the Ethics Committee.

How I thrive

I was an avid high school and college athlete, and I enjoy physical activity to this day. In order to spare my joints from the pounding of more traditional exercise like running, and because gym exercise bores me to tears, I've turned to a lifelong interest in cycling (both mountain and street) to try and stay fit. I grew up in Southern California, so I love the ocean and enjoy going to the beach and boating around the Channel Islands any chance I get.
