About Me

Welcome to my Web page. I'm happy to introduce myself, and tell you about my work as a physician on the bone marrow transplant team at Kaiser Permanente.

Biography

I am a board certified medical oncologist with subspecialty training in stem cell transplantation. In 1993, I began work at the City of Hope Medical Center. In 2000, I joined the bone marrow transplant team at Kaiser Permanente Southern California. In November of 2013, I was named director of our Bone Marrow Transplant Department. Our group is the referral center for all of Kaiser Permanente's Southern California region. I am very pleased and proud to provide the best and most advanced care for our members. I am originally from Venezuela, where I finished medical school in 1984. In 1987, my wife and I moved to Dallas, where I completed my three-year residency program in internal medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. We then moved to Chicago, for my training in hematology and medical oncology at the University of Chicago. It was a busy and exciting time for us. Then in 1993, we moved to Southern California, and I completed a year of transplant fellowship.

About my practice

My subspecialty requires that I work very closely not only with other physicians, but also with nurses, laboratory personnel, social workers, and other staff. I am fortunate that we have an excellent team with the common goal to provide the best and most comprehensive care to our patients. The patients we care for have diseases that are potentially life-threatening, and the treatments we provide and their potential complications require constant attention to not only the patient's physical condition, but also the emotional and psychological wellbeing. We also take into consideration the impact on the patient's family. Our team is focused on providing the best possible care to our patients and their families.

How I thrive

My wife and I have three children. We enjoy our family dinners together, where all the daily stories are shared. As a family, we enjoy Southern California's diverse people and places. To maintain life balance, I exercise my body and mind by jogging, hiking, going to the theater and the movies.
